Director travels to Global Horticulture Initiative Meeting

The director of Horticulture CRSP, Dr. Ron Voss, travelled to Bangkok to attend the 6th Global Horticulture Initiative Board of Directors Meeting. The Global Horticulture Initiative (GHI) is a worldwide program that aims to alleviate poverty through the development of horticultural research and production. The Board members of GHI include representatives of:

GHI and Horticulture CRSP share a similar vision. Both organizations focus on the development of horticulture for the benefit of reducing poverty and improving nutrition among the rural poor, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa and southern Asia.  Increased production, gender equity and a horticultural knowledge bank that can be accessed by growers all over the world are activities common to both organizations.  Hort CRSP also has a strong emphasis on improving postharvest practices to reduce losses of food between the field and the table, as well as innovative technology implementation. Both organizations are driving horticultural development in innovative and sustainable directions; Dr. Voss attended the GHI Board Meeting to build cohesive working relationships with GHI and their affiliate organizations. We aim to complement each other’s work and broaden our collective impact in horticultural development.
