Horticulture Innovation Lab team

The Horticulture Innovation Lab is managed by a team at UC Davis in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences, under the Department of Plant Sciences and the International Programs Office.

photo of Beth Mitcham, UC Davis

Director
Dr. Elizabeth (Beth) Mitcham is a postharvest biologist and extension specialist with the UC Davis Department of Plant Sciences. Her research program is focused on maintaining the quality of fruit after harvest, mechanisms of calcium deficiency in fruit, and postharvest insect control. Associate Director
Erin McGuire holds a master's degree in International Agricultural Development, with experience in monitoring and evaluation, policy, advocacy, and appropriate technologies. She previously worked for the National Farm to School Network, the CA&ES International Programs Office, and UC Davis D-Lab.

Leader, Technology and Innovation
Dr. Michael Reid is a professor and postharvest extension specialist emeritus in the UC Davis Department of Plant Sciences. Specializing in postharvest handling of ornamentals, he has worked with flower growers in Africa, Latin America and Asia. He has been inducted into the California Floriculture Hall of Fame.

Beatriz Rodriguez Abogado has extensive experience providing executive and administrative support for international consulate offices.

Hannah Chale most recently worked for the UC Davis Sponsored Programs office. She holds a master's degree in diplomacy and has a background working with USAID-funded research.

International Postharvest Specialist
Angelos Deltsidis holds a Ph.D. in horticultural sciences and a master's degree in agribusiness, both from the University of Florida. He is originally from Greece.

Program Officer
Archie Jarman most recently worked as a project manager for Arcadia Biosciences. He holds a master's degree in international social welfare policy from Columbia University.

Amrita Mukherjee is an assistant specialist working on the Aquaculture-Horticulture for Nutrition project in Bangladesh. She previously worked on the Horticulture Innovation Lab project for sustainable potato storage in Bangladesh, in partnership with the International Potato Center (CIP). She holds a master's degree in biotechnology.

Débora Rivera is the project manager for a Horticulture Innovation Lab project in Guatemala called "MásRiego." She holds master's degrees in environmental engineering from the Technological University of Harburg-Hamburg (TUHH) in Germany and in technology management from the Northern Institute of Technology Management at TUHH.
