2024 Feed the Future Innovation Lab Annual Meeting: Local Leadership in Building Horticulture Resilience to Climate Change
The Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Horticulture is holding its 2024 annual meeting in Antigua, Guatemala from June 3-7, 2024, welcoming delegates from across the globe. The event is hosted by Zamorano University – the Horticulture Innovation Lab’s Central America Regional Hub - with the support from the Universidad del Valle, Rafael Landivar University, and Acceso, which is a non-profit organization supporting the horticulture value chain in Central America. These supporting organizations and universities are all leading research projects in Guatemala to build resilience to climate change for small-scale producers.
This annual event brings together participants from all over the world. It is designed to enhance collaborations and knowledge exchange, including a regional public day to exchange insights on the horticulture sector in Guatemala and Honduras. It will also highlight how Central America’s horticulture production has been impacted by climate change and what approaches are needed to increase climate change resilience in the region. Attendees of the regional public day include special guests and stakeholder institutions based in Guatemala and Honduras, with presentations from experts and opportunities for actors in the region’s horticulture sector to engage with the Horticulture Innovation Lab and one another.
Guatemala and Honduras are critical players in horticulture production for the region and internationally, producing an amazingly diverse range of products in varied terrain and climates. Continued support of the horticulture sector in Central America strengthens this important source of income and nutrition for the region.
The Horticulture Innovation Lab is managed by the University of California, Davis under the directorship of Dr. Erin J. McGuire, with support from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) as part of the U.S. Government's Feed the Future initiative. The Horticulture Innovation Lab’s consortium consists of U.S. and international universities, researchers, non-governmental organizations, national agricultural research institutes, and private enterprises in Africa, Asia and Central America. Led by in-country, local institutions, the Horticulture Innovation Lab conducts research to advance horticulture and social innovations, empowering small-scale producers to earn more income while better nourishing their communities.
