Dr. Penina Yumbya holds a BSc Agriculture, MSc Horticulture and a PhD in Horticulture (Postharvest major) all from the University of Nairobi, Kenya. Her research focuses on validating and scaling up of postharvest technologies for small scale farmers in developing countries. Penina has worked as a part-time lecturer at the University of Nairobi, Kenya with major responsibilities in teaching, student supervision and research. She has also worked as a project manager in Kenya for a project funded by the International Development Research Center (IDRC) which focused on post-harvest management of fruits using nanotechnology. Penina has conducted several research and outreach initiatives as a private consultant in the Horticulture sector.
