African indigenous vegetables

This category of vegetables is sometimes referenced with a variety of different names, including African indigenous vegetables (AIVs), African leafy vegetables, and traditional vegetables. 

The Horticulture Innovation Lab's research related to African indigenous vegetables has generally focused on leafy greens, most frequently vegetable amaranth, African nightshade, spiderplant, and sometimes moringa.

Providing a deeper understanding of the significant role African indigenous fruit and vegetable (AIFVs) have in global food and nutrition security, this project investigates how actors along the value chain can increase income through enhanced production and consumption of and AIFVs in Ghana and Mali.
