Lightning talk: Irrigation innovations for dry season horticulture in Uganda

Description

Developing irrigation solutions for dryland horticulture with farmers, focusing on farmer participation and women's empowerment, is what Kate Scow discusses in the five-minute lightnight talk. Scow, of the University of California, Davis, is the primary investigator of this project with funding from the Horticulture Innovation Lab.

Scow discusses the structure of the project: six project sites, each with dedicated innovation spaces. Farmers identify what they wanted to investigate and, with advice from technical experts, designed irrigation solutions specific to their needs and site. Challenges include land rights and scaling.

This presentation was given at the 2016 Horticulture Innovation Lab annual meeting in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
