Elevating DryCard™ and Dry Chain Innovations Across Regions to Reduce Food Loss

The dry chain, modeled after the cold chain, ensures that dried commodities reach safe moisture levels before storage, preventing postharvest losses. Horticulture Innovation Lab team with researchers at the University of California, Davis, have pioneered affordable drying technologies such as the DryCard™, chimney dryer, and pallet dryer, providing small-scale farmers with practical tools to enhance food preservation and reduce economic losses.

Jane Ambuko

Professor Jane Ambuko serves as a leader in postharvest science and technology at the University of Nairobi, Kenya, where she focuses on reducing food loss and waste through innovative solutions for small-scale producers. She earned her PhD in Agricultural Sciences with a postharvest focus from Tsukuba University, Japan in 2008, following her Master of Science in Horticulture and Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Nairobi.

Forah Mokua Obebo

Dr. Forah Mokua Obebo is as Economist with over fifteen years of experience in food systems analysis, agricultural and nutritional policy research, socio-economic analysis, and monitoring and evaluation. He holds a PhD in Economics from Kenyatta University and a Master of Science Degree in Economics from the prestigious Adam Smith Business School at the University of Glasgow, United Kingdom, where he passed with Distinction.

Kwadwo Danso-Mensah

Kwadwo Danso-Mensah is a Development Economist and a Monitory, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) expert providing research and MEL services to local organizations, international development institutions and global charities. He is currently the Director of Research at the International Center for Evaluation (ICED). He is also a research associate at the African Centre of Excellence for Inequalities Research (ACEIR) at the Institute of Social, Statistical and Economic Research (ISSER), University of Ghana.
