Project Idea: "IMPLEMENTACIÓN DE MICRO TÚNELES PARA LA PRODUCCIÓN HORTÍCOLA EN EL MUNICIPIO DE SANTIAGO DE HUAYLLAMARCA
1. Antecedentes

Project Idea: "Action research on livestock and horticulture integration for sustainable food and nutrition security in the hills of Nepal
Integration of horticulture crops and animals is a typical agricultural practice among smallholder farmers in Nepal. There are trade-offs in productivity, socio-economic status and unemployment. Horticulture and animal products such as high value fruits, vegetables, dairy and meat are highly demanded in city centre and in return stallholders earn income which is used to cater household needs. It is necessary to evaluate how mixed farming of both animal species and horticulture crops improve food and nutrition security, sustainable soil-environment management, socio-economic changes and poverty reduction in Nepal.
Activities
• Baseline survey on socio-economic status before project intervention
• Development of sustainable horti-pastoral technology (e.g., kiwifruit, banana, papaya, pomegranate and intercropping with legume forage such as alfalfa, berseem (Trifolium alexandrinum L.)
 Effect on soil fertility, milk production (cow/buffaloes), meat production (goat and meat)
• Development of sustainable vegetable-goat integration technology (legume vegetables such as bean, cowpea, asparagus bean production and goat farming)

Agriconcern International
Email: gkatarekwa@gmail.com
Project Idea: Improving food security through sustainable integrated animal-horticulture systems on small holder farms which is the typical farming system in Rwanda. Under Agriconcern International, we have been evaluating how mixed farming of both animals and Horticulture can improve food and nutrition security to enable Rwanda achieve Vision 2020 as a middle income country. Different households are taken as beneficaries of animals such as goats, cows, rabits, chicken and Pigs. Therefore through support of Rwanda devlopment plan, we have been studying how benefiting households have improved their food and nutrition security. It is very interesting that Horticulture produces high value fruits and vegetables which are highly demanded in city centers. In return households earn income which is used to cater for household needs. Rwanda government is soon rolling out a project to give every household a cow and seedlings of pumpkins, mangoes, oranges among other horticultural produce.
