Horticultural technology application in Rwanda

Description

This 90-second video shares about technology application and research being done on the Horticulture Innovation Lab project that is working to reduce postharvest losses in Rwanda. Serge Ndayitabi, project coordinator, introduces the project. Vincent Gasasira of the National Agricultural Export Development Board talks about shifting from baskets to crates. Solange Musanase of the University of Rwanda shows student research on cold storage for tomatoes. Aloys Hakizimana of the Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resource Board discusses the efficacy of the Zero Energy Cool Chamber for storing fruits and vegetables.

This project aims to understand and identify the most efficient ways to reduce postharvest losses in Rwanda, to ultimately increase food security. Overall, the project's work in postharvest innovations and interventions will help farmers and agribusiness enterprises gain better return on investments by adopting appropriate technology and reducing postharvest losses.
