Increasing smallholder vegetable farmer utilization of grafting and tunnel microclimate management tools

Description

This poster by Matthew Kleinhenz, Monicah Waiganjo, Mark Erbaugh, and Sally Miller was presented at the 2011 Horticulture Innovation Lab annual meeting.

This poster outlines the three phases of a proposed project focused on vegetable grafting and the use of tunnels. The phases described include:

  • Document baseline resource availability
  • Develop educational products to increase stakeholder success using the tools
  • Evaluate the educational products

Tomatoes and peppers are a key commodity in East Africa, and both grafting and low/high tunnels can reduce biotic and abiotic stresses on the plants, therefore improving yield and quality.
